Athanasios Gatsoulis, 94, (affectionately as Papoo and "Thanasi")of Roxbury and formerly of Hyde Park in Boston, MA, passed on March 29, 2016. Beloved husband of Aristoula (affectionately Areti and Yaya) for 60 yrs. Father of Irene and Peter and his wife Kjerste of Roxbury, Boston, MA. Papoo of Athan and Ava Athena. Brother of Dimitros and Antigone of Greece. Raised in West Macedonia section of Northern Greece, foreign allied resistance and partisan veteran of WWII. Remembered as an activist and proponent of fairness of labor worker rights in Thessaloniki. Remembered for his enduring work as a stone mason on the Cape and south of Boston. Loved by family, friends and neighbors, and friend to many others he encountered through out his life. Funeral arrangements by Kfoury Keefe Funeral Home of West Roxbury and interred at Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park, Boston, MA on April 1st, 2016.
Aristoula Gatsoulis, 90, affectionately as Yaya and "Areti" of Roxbury, Boston, MA and formerly of Hyde Park in Boston, MA passed on April 24th, 2020 during the great pandemic of 2020.
Predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Athanasios "Thanasi" Gatsoulis in 2016. Areti was born to ILias Samaras and Athena Samara, sister of Aglaia, Thomas and Ted. She was raised in the Western Macedonia region of Greece, near Kozani and later resided in Thessaloniki for many years. She emigrated from Athens to Montreal and then to the Boston area in the 1960's and was employed as a seamstress. She is remembered for her incredible hospitality to the many she helped with open heart, her devotion to friends and family and her willingness to help out those that came into her life. She is survived by her daughter Irene Gatsoulis of Boston, by her son Peter Gatsoulis and his wife Kjerste Soderberg of Boston and her grandchildren Athan Gatsoulis and Ava Athena Gatsoulis and her brother Ted Samaras and his family of Montreal.
